How I Built My 906% Profit Strategy on Zerodha Streak

Updated: Aug 18, 2024

Achieving significant returns with algo trading requires a solid strategy and disciplined execution. Here’s how I developed a strategy that resulted in 906% profit:

Step 1: Identifying Market Opportunities in Bank Nifty

I started by studying Bank Nifty's price movements and identifying key opportunities where breakouts were likely. I used technical indicators such as RSI, moving averages, and volume to determine optimal entry points for option buying. Volatile assets like Bank Nifty tend to show rapid price swings, making them ideal for this strategy.

Step 2: Setting Up Entry and Exit Conditions

In Zerodha Streak, I configured precise entry and exit conditions for my trades. For instance, I set the algorithm to buy Bank Nifty options when the RSI crossed a specific threshold while being supported by increasing volume. For my exit conditions, I locked in profits when the momentum started to slow down, preventing losses from market reversals.

Step 3: Backtesting the Strategy

Before going live, I extensively backtested my strategy using Zerodha Streak's backtesting feature. This allowed me to simulate how my strategy would have performed under different market conditions over the past year. Consistent profitability across multiple backtests gave me the confidence to implement the strategy in live markets.

Step 4: Live Deployment and Scalping

After successful backtesting, I deployed my strategy in the live market. One key element of my approach was scalping in Bank Nifty options—taking small, frequent profits from quick price movements. Scalping is an excellent way to leverage volatility, and with Zerodha Streak, my trades were executed instantly based on my predefined rules.

Why My Option Buying Strategy Worked

The success of my 906% profit was due to a combination of several factors:

  • Precision in entry and exit rules: The clear conditions I set helped me avoid emotional decision-making and instead rely on technical analysis.

  • Use of momentum indicators: Momentum indicators like RSI and moving averages allowed me to catch trends early, giving my trades an edge in fast-moving markets like Bank Nifty.

  • Automated execution: By automating the trades, I was able to remove hesitation and ensure that my strategy was executed without any manual intervention.

The key takeaway here is that automated trading is not just about hands-free execution; it’s about ensuring that your strategy is deployed flawlessly and consistently, even in volatile markets.

How to Start Algo Trading on Zerodha Streak: A Beginner's Guide

Getting started with algo trading might seem intimidating, but Zerodha Streak simplifies the entire process. Whether you're a seasoned trader or a complete beginner, here's how you can start your own algo trading journey:

Step 1: Create a Strategy

Begin by identifying a trading strategy that fits your goals and risk tolerance. You can use a combination of technical indicators and price patterns to create your strategy. For example, if you want to trade Bank Nifty options, you could base your strategy on momentum indicators like RSI, combined with volume confirmation.

Step 2: Backtest Your Strategy

Use Zerodha Streak's backtesting tool to test your strategy on historical data. This is an essential step to see how well your strategy would have performed in different market conditions. Adjust and optimise based on the backtesting results to minimise risks.

Step 3: Deploy Your Strategy

Once you’re confident in your strategy’s performance, deploy it live on Zerodha Streak. Your algo will automatically execute trades based on the conditions you’ve set, ensuring that you capitalize on profitable opportunities in real-time.

Which Algorithm is Best for Trading?

The best algorithm for trading largely depends on your trading style, risk tolerance, and the asset you’re trading. For option buying strategies in Bank Nifty, algorithms that focus on momentum and volume-based indicators tend to work well due to the asset’s volatility.

Consider using:

  • Momentum-based algorithms: These focus on price acceleration and deceleration to catch trends early.

  • Volume-driven strategies: Volume spikes often signal the start of strong trends, making them ideal for entering trades.

  • Scalping algorithms: For high-frequency traders, scalping strategies that take small profits from quick movements can be highly effective.
